Alfred Hitchcock’s 1941 film-noir “Suspicion” is the story of a wealthy, sheltered woman, Lina McLaidlaw (Joan Fontaine), who is swept of her feet by charming ne’er-do-well Johnny Aysgarth (Cary Grant). Though warned that Johnny is little more than a fortune-hunter, Lina marries him anyway. She remains loyal to her irresponsible husband as he plows his way from one disreputable business scheme to another. Gradually, Lina comes to the conclusion that Johnny intends to do away with her in order to collect her inheritance…a suspicion confirmed when Johnny’s likeable business partner Beaky mysteriously dies.

Explorations V Children’s Museum, a downtown Lakeland fixture for two decades now, will celebrate 20 years of hands-on, fun-filled adventures in learning at its 20th Birthday X-travaganza on Saturday, August 27, 2011.

The birthday party fun will run from 10am-3pm and will feature Radio Disney-AM 1380 from 10:30am to 12:30 pm! There’ll be hula-hooping fun, music, games and prizes not to mention three floors of kid-powered exhibits to explore!

All activities will be included with admission which is $7 per person. Senior citizens are $3.50. Children under two and museum members are free.

Lakeland, FL – The Lakeland Flying Tigers will host the 4^th of July celebration at Joker Marchant Stadium on Monday, July 4.  Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance for the best seat locations and to avoid lines.  Tickets for July 4th are available by calling the Flying Tigers at (863) 686-8075.  Box seats are $7 and reserved seats are $6 and seniors 55 and over and children 14 and under receive a $1.00 discount.  Parking is FREE.
The Flying Tigers will take on the Dunedin Blue Jays in a Florida State League north-division match-up.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and the gates to Marchant Stadium will open at 4:00 p.m.   During the game the Flying Tigers will have holiday picnic themed games, contests, music and fun.  The team will be wearing special patriotic red, white and blue jerseys. There will also be live music following the game.
The dueling fireworks spectacular will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.  There will be two amazing fireworks displays skyrocketing at the same time choreographed to patriotic music.  The shows are sponsored by The City of Lakeland, Lakeland Electric, The Ledger and Hall Communications and will be displayed by Bell’s Fireworks Display Company.

An inveterate adventure traveler, EJ Jensen made the hop from standard mountain biking to mountain bike trials in 2008 in Okinawa Japan.  Since then, he has been driven to hone the precision skills and balance necessary to excel in urban trials, and has enjoyed sharing his passion for the little-known sport with the many people he meets along his journey. Though primarily focused on urban trials, with cities in North America and Europe providing the obstacle courses (or “puzzles” as he sees them), EJ has recently branched out into natural trials as well, competing in the Southridge Fontana winter series on the rocky terrain of southern California.  He is currently touring the US promoting the culture of cycling through demonstrations at bicycle themed events.

Penrose Design jewelry is handcrafted by Massachusetts artists Elisabeth Cary and Ricky Bernstein. The remarkable color and depth of Penrose glass beads is achieved through an intricate glass blowing technique of layering clear glass over a core of pigmented glass. Ricky forms these layers of 2200 degree hot glass on a blowpipe, then stretches the hot glass into 25 -foot long pencil thin rods called “cane”. Once cooled, the canes are cut into small individually shaped beads and tumbled for 20 hours to soften edges. Think of beach glass that has tumbled in the waves and sand.
