Enjoy a Taste of the Caribbean at PMoA

Polk Museum of Art will be celebrating the Caribbean with an evening of culture, music and food on Friday, February 5. Rex Harris, Granada native and owner of R & R Chutney, will create his specialty Caribbean dishes – including jerk wings and curry shrimp. Other dishes will consist of Creole chicken, Caribbean beef and coconut ice cream with chocolate bread pudding.

PMoA Opening Two New Exhibitions Inspired by Nature

Starting January 23, 2010, Polk Museum of Art will open two new exhibitions featuring artwork inspired by flowers and gardens: Joseph Raffael and Kenneth Treister: The Colors of Nature. Joseph Raffael, an American artist who lives in France, paints large scale contemporary watercolors of the flowers his garden. Treister, a Winter Haven resident and internationally acclaimed architect and sculptor, paints abstract fields of color inspired by the outdoors.

PMoA Announces Jerry Uelsmann as Recipient of Artist Lifetime Achievement Award

Polk Museum of Art is pleased to announce Jerry Uelsmann as the fourth recipient of its Artist Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented by the Art Resource Trust of Polk Museum of Art. Previous recipients of this award are artists Miriam Schapiro, James Rosenquist, and Robert Stackhouse. Uelsmann will receive this award at a banquet held at the Lakeland Yacht and Country Club on January 14 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $100 per person for Art Resource Trust Members or $125 per person for Non-Members and must be purchased in advance by contacting Pal Powell at 863-688-7743 x.240.
