New arrivals at Brooke Pottery include uncommonly beautiful fused glass and clay works by Minnesota potter Kerry Brooks. A founder of Dock 6, a collective of potters in Minneapolis formed in the late 1990′s, Brooks has been working with clay for over 20 years. Kerry’s masterful feel for clay is obvious in the playful forms and colorful mix of textured glazes of her high-fired stoneware. Hurry in to see the new collection of dinnerware, baking dishes, serving pieces and coasters at Brooke Pottery. It’s been turning heads all week, with several pieces already headed out the door! Note: While all Dock 6 Pottery is food safe, only the solid pottery pieces may be used in the microwave, oven and dishwasher. Pieces incorporating fused glass are appropriate for dry foods and must be hand-washed.

New at Brooke Pottery are astoundingly beautiful miniatures known as Happy Houses: small buildings handsculpted from terracotta clay and handpainted with rich, vibrant glazes. New England husband and wife team Felix Kniazev and Olga Julinska have been creating brightly colored ceramic arts for nearly 10 years with the mission to delight and wonder viewers. Their “Happy House” series is inspired by “the ancient belief that a little clay house brings luck and fortune to its owner.” Appropriately enough, these clay miniatures are built to fit a tealight within and cast cozy light from the windows. At Brooke Pottery, these artful miniatures are but the first wonders from Art Department that we’ll carry- for spring we’ve ordered fresh “bouquets” of their colorful ceramic flowers!

A new batch of cats and kittens has arrived at Brooke Pottery, looking for good homes. This motley crew is none other than the delightful creation of cat lover and clay artist Mary Gates Dewey. Read more about Mary's clay work......

A new batch of cats and kittens has arrived at Brooke Pottery, looking for good homes. This motley crew is none other than the delightful creation of cat lover and clay artist Mary Gates Dewey. Originally from Florida, Mary has spent a lifetime pursuing her passion for ceramics, working in the woods of southeast Ohio and the Appalachian mountains. In 1982, she created her first raku cat, and now cats are the only designs to leave the studio!

The unique markings on these handsculpted clay cats results from the ancient technique of pit firing. After a first kiln firing, the cats are buried in sawdust; smoke from the burning sawdust then creates the beautiful and random color patterns. Each pottery cat has a distinct personality, and many are named by their true life characters. In fact, Mary’s cat Kaygee, or “kiln god”, has inspired many designs over the years as he’s kept a careful watch over the pit firings. Come into Brooke Pottery soon to see all the frisky felines – they are sure to be adopted quickly!
