Two options are offered for children and families: After School Art and Drawing, Painting, & Sculpture (ages 5-13).

For teens and adults, courses will be offered in Art History, Mixed Media Assemblage, Acrylic Painting, Yoga Among the Art, Digital Photography 101, Intermediate Digital Photography, Mixed Media Self Portraits, Figure Drawing, and Chinese Brush Painting.

A class in Film Acting will also be available for ages 8 to adult.

ONE COMBINED SESSION FOR ALL AGES

Here are just a few of the movements we will draw inspiration from:

Session 1 (June 14 – 25) – 1900s – 1910s: Explore the swirls, twirls, and cartoon-like style of Art Nouveau, the broken forms of Cubism, and the movement of Futurism.

Session 2 (June 28 – July 9) – 1920s: Let imaginations run wild with Surrealism, feel the clean lines and geometry of Art Deco, and dig into the ethnic influences of the Harlem Renaissance.

Session 3 (July 12 – 23) – 1950s: Go mad for popular culture with Pop Art, focus on color with Color Field painting, and get funky with Neo-Dada constructions.

Session 4  (July 26 – August 6) -  1960s – present: Fool your eyes with Op Art, break it down to the basics with Minimalism, and get digital with Computer Art.

Classes offered throughout the summer include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Digital Photography, Mixed Media Art, Wearable Art, Printmaking, and Performance Play. Students may take one to three classes per day, per session, and may enroll in any session. Each session will be themed to a different modern art period.

Tuition for SummerArt Camp is $115 per class, per student, with discounts given for Museum members and enrolling in multiple classes. For example, a non-member student who enrolls in three classes per day for one session will cost $330 for the session.

We recently finished 10 weeks of Summer Art Camp, with around 325 students taking classes. We would like to thank those students and parents for voting us as the best art classes in the area. What an honor!

Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect.com is allowing parents to pick the best of their local communities with its second annual Parents’ Picks Awards. The Parents’ Picks Awards will identify winners in 52 major U.S. cities. Anyone can vote for nominees online at www.parentsconnect.com/parentspicks until July 15 to help determine the “top picks” in their city. Visitors to the site can vote in each category once a day until the end of the voting period. ParentsConnect will announce the winners online on Aug. 15. The 2009 award winners will be featured on ParentsConnect throughout the year.

Museum supporters are encouraged to visit the website and vote every day for PMoA in its two nominated categories.

Children ages 5 – 13 can enroll for up to 3 classes per day, and classes include drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, performance play, photography, and edible art. All of the classes offered during Session 1 will have an Australian theme. Classes are taught by certified art teachers and/or art professionals. Teachers and Museum staff have been background checked in accordance with the Jessica Lunsford Act.

The cost per child, per class is $100 for Museum members and $115 for non-members. Discounts are given if a child takes more than one class.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with Summer Art Camp. Area high school students are encouraged to volunteer, and service hours will be given, if needed.
