Holiday Out of School Workshops at Explorations V Children’s Museum

Well, the kids are out of school but we don’t all have the same days off as the kids! What to do? Call Explorations V Children’s Museum, located at 109 North Kentucky Avenue in downtown Lakeland, and sign them up for Holiday Out of School workshops running December 19-23 and Dec 27-30.

They can get holiday creative with decorations, ornaments and gifts, tasty cookies and candies, winter art and science and more! The daily themed camps include hands-on activities, museum exploration, afternoon snacks and outdoor play (weather permitting).

Full day sessions for K-6th grade run from 9am to 5pm and half day sessions run 9am-1pm. Early drop off and late pick up is available for an additional fee.

Museum member pricing is $40 for a full day and $25 for half days. Non-member pricing is available. Not a member…not a problem! Join today for $70 and get 15 months for the price of 12 through December 30, 2011.

Dr. Scissorhands Pumpkin Carving Exhibition – Oct. 29

Don’t miss the Annual “Dr. Scissorhands” Pumpkin Carving Exhibition at the Lakeland Downtown Farmers Curb Market, where local doctors “operate” on innocent pumpkins. They create the coolest jack-o-lanterns that you can bid on to take home or give to a friend. Carving begins at 9:30 a.m. and the auction will begin at 11.

There will be a costume contest at 10:45. It’s simple: just show up in time for judging. You’ll also have a chance to vote on the best vendors’ costumes. Kids’ craft activities will be available.

Peace River Center will be present for this event on 10/29. They’ll have information on behavioral health services in our area, as well as information about recovery from mental illness and substance abuse. They’ll have FREE reusable grocery bags to give away to grown-ups, and for kids, FREE stickers and pinwheels! (Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention.)

All proceeds benefit Alliance for Independence. Special thanks to 98.3 MAX, the creative doctors, all our great vendors, and YOU!

Farmers Curb Market New Season Begins Sept. 3

Here’s your chance to meet and support local authors, illustrators and publishers (just in time for the holidays!) in a Downtown showcase. Who knows? You might even be inspired to write that book that you’ve been “meaning to get to” for years.

It’s also a great way for local authors and illustrators to come out and promote/sell their works. Deadline for participation is Friday, Sept. 16th – but, the sooner you sign up, the more pre-event promotion you get! Space is limited.
