Red White & Kaboom
CITY OF LAKELAND’S RED, WHITE & KABOOM INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
RESURRECTED WITH SPONSPORSHIP FROM T. MIMS CORP./BUYER’S REP. INC.
T. Mims Corp./Buyer’s Rep. Inc. Red, White & Kaboom will take place July 3rd at Lakeland’s Lake Mirror Park
LAKELAND, FL (June 3, 2009) – The City of Lakeland is pleased to announce that the Independence Celebration Red, White & Kaboom that takes place at Lake Mirror on July 3rd is back on schedule due to the recently acquired sponsorship from T. Mims Corp./Buyer’s Rep. Inc. who is dedicated as the title sponsor of the event.
T. Mims Corp./Buyer’s Rep. Inc. Red, White & Kaboom will take place around the Lake Mirror Promenade from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The evening’s entertainment will include the pop rock sounds of the popular band MillHopper. The popular band will play three sets of music ending at 9:00 p.m. to a breathtaking display of fireworks over Lake Mirror. Our local food banks are in need of donations and as part of this year’s celebration, we are asking that all those that are coming out for this wonderful free event, to bring a canned food item. There will be several locations throughout Lake Mirror Park that will be accepting the canned food donations.
MillHopper has been playing in Lakeland for the past seven years. They are definitely a rock band with guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. The current lineup is four guys whose musical backgrounds are as diverse as their collective personalities. If there is one constant, however, it is the desire to entertain people of all ages with music they know and love. The band thrives on the audience’s participation and loves an enthusiastic crowd. When you hear MillHopper, you will hear familiar sounds and songs that cover a range of music from the 60’s to the present day, and you can be sure of a few surprises that you weren’t counting on.
The popular event was eliminated as a line item from the City of Lakeland fiscal year 2008 budget due to economic constraints. The City was able to secure sponsorship in 2008 but because of the continuing economic downturn, it looked as if the long standing event would not happen in 2009.
Tom Mims, President of T. Mims Corporation and Buyer’s Rep. Inc. said, “I am pleased to resurrect this great family event that signifies exactly what our community is all about.” He added, “I heard that the event may not happen and I met with City officials to bring this great event back to life that allows families to celebrate our Nation’s founding. This is a fun, free event for people during these tough economic times. We are glad to be a part of this celebration.” Mims said, “This year we are requesting people bring one can of food for admission as a donation for our local food banks to help everyone’s friends and neighbors in need. If someone wants to bring several cans it would be greatly appreciated.” He added, “Our goal is to be overrun with canned food.”
There will be a variety of food and drink vendors around Lake Mirror so bring a blanket and enjoy the live music and a dramatic display of fireworks over the lake. The evening is free to the public and everyone attending is encouraged to bring at least one food item to benefit our local food banks. All City parking garages will be open for T. Mims Corp./Buyer’s Rep. Inc. Red, White & Kaboom. On Friday, July 4, 2008 the celebration continues at Lakeland’s own Joker Marchant Stadium. There will be a dazzling display of fireworks around 9:00 p.m. following the Lakeland Flying Tigers vs. the Tampa Bay Yankees baseball game.
The T. Mims Corp./Buyer’s Rep. Inc. Red, White & Kaboom celebration is presented by the City of Lakeland, Center Door Productions and The Ledger.
