Frank Lloyd Wright … building a new bungalow at Florida Southern College
Work began in April on Florida Southern College’s latest piece of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, a Usonian house that Wright first envisioned around the turn of the 20th century. He was frustrated with what had become typical middle-class homes in America but which did not, in his opinion, actually reflect America and its own unique style and resources.
Plans for the “Child of The Sun” installation at FSC called for Usonian bungalows to be used for faculty housing, but none were built at that time. Led by the college’s president, Dr. Anne Kerr, the effort to restore the original structures has also given rise to this current project which is slated to be completed in the fall of this year.
