Chanukah Menorah Lighting
Chabad to kindle giant menorah in downtown Lakeland

LAKELAND, FL (December 1, 2010) – Chabad Lubavitch of Polk County would like to invite the community at large to attend the first annual public menorah lighting, tonight at Kryger Park in Lakeland. City officials and local religious leaders will be present as the giant ten foot menorah is kindled. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and will continue until 8:00. Kryger Park overlooks the West side of Lake Mirror, and is located at 108 S. Massachusetts Ave., corner Main St.

Rabbi Lazaros, executive director of Chabad said, “Chanukah symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, which is why we must light the Menorah only once it’s dark, to transform the darkness of the world into the light of good. Chabad Lubavitch has been arranging public Menorah lightings around the world for over 35 years, and now for the first time ever this phenomenon has reached Polk County. We would like to invite the community at large to this historic event.”

Participants will enjoy lively Chanukah music, a menorah kit and dreidel to take home, and complimentary hot latkes and Israeli style Chanukah donuts. Children will be able to complete a Chanukah arts & crafts project, and have an opportunity to take a photograph with the hero of Chanukah, Judah Maccabee.

Admission is free, cold beverages will be available for sale.
