August 25, 2010
Attending: Jean Bunch, Frank McCauley, Eric Belvin, Anne Furr, Lynn Dennis, Cayla Shupperd, Randy Anderson, Kevin Jones, Jim Nixon, Julie Townsend, Ellen Simms, Margaret Stephens
Called to Order: 8:05
Minutes: Jim Nixon moved to accept, Frank McCauley seconded, approved
Treasurer’s Report: See attached. Budget explained: Brewz Crewz – Randy Anderson questioned the amount of money given to Elderpoint. Still talking about this, will decide before next meeting. City limiting the park to ½ requiring fencing. Committee is working with the city, might hire police. Are proposing to hire a part time person to help with the administrative tasks. Need to do more to service the members, want to pay people to do barricaded and other needs for 1stFriday. Julie needs permanent people. Budget is to be approved in Sept.
Membership: 175 members, 8 have been written off. 210 in 2010 membership drive Thursday September 23, 2010 now approved (see agenda for new members)
First Friday: Back to School – ask people to take posters to put up in places not downtown. FCAT game – go from business to business, solved form, school with most partipatants will win a prize.
Oct – Polk County Builders Association – Thriller, Rocky Horror, two shows S.Ken, Art show N.Ken, Fritz Framing, Traditions Unlimited and Brooke Pottery putting together.
Programs: Frank McCauley – Sept, Mike LaPan, Presentation of the Arts
Oct – DLP Luncheon, Gow Fields speaker, “Just Downtown or Regional Destination”
LDDA: Anne Furr (see notes) Election 10/5 City Hall @ City offices, 9/28 candidate forum, community room of LDDA. Farmers Market re-opens 9/1, Patriots Day 9/11. Millage rate – 2.0 mils or keep as it is. Sidewalk signs – have until 11/3 to get sign permitted. Way finding signs
Board Elections – Jim Nixon nominated Robert Goodman from Blue Sky. Anne Furr suggested looking into a Publix reprehensive. Elections @ September General Meeting.
Peddling the Arts – register on website, will do Ledger blurb, would like 20 people, 10/30
VIP Program – VIP card, size of a business card, 10% discount, can have restrictions, will be on website, 22 businesses, free but registration is required, special e-mail group, 4 month program, can be used more than once, can re-issue in January if it goes well. Launched September 1st Friday
Weather Camera – WTSP wanted to put one in downtown, was put on Mid Florida, needed internet connection. Tampa Bay 10 WTSP is willing to advertise what’s happening in downtown.
