Two Events Planned in Honor of Current Exhibition
We’re so excited about the current exhibition at PMoA that we’re hosting two events to celebrate it! Lois Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color is a retrospective of the 70 year career of this amazing artist. Jones was one of the most influential African-American artists of the 20th Century, and she is often associated with the Harlem Renaissance.
The first event is on Friday, August 20th, from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Drop in to enjoy performances by spoken word artist Shanoah Washington, entertainment by Larry Pelton, and great hors d’oeuvres by Harris Food Company. This informal event is FREE for everyone.
The second event is our traditional exhibition reception on Friday, August 27, 6:00 – 8:30pm. The evening begins at 6pm with a lecture about Jones’s life and work by Dr. Tritobia Hayes Benjamin. Dr. Benjamin is the Associate Dean of the Division of Fine Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences and Director of the Gallery of Art at Howard University in Washington, DC, and friend of Jones. After the lecture, we’ll have some light refreshments and a cash bar available while you explore the exhibition. This event is free for PMoA members and $10 for non-members.
We hope you’ll join us for one of these great events!
