Two New Exhibitions Coming to PMoA
Starting April 10, PMoA will have two new exhibitions on display, both of which feature utilitarian objects. Japanese Textiles & Prints will include many of the beautiful kimonos, obis, and vests that were donated to the Museum in 2006 by Norma Canelas and William D. Roth in honor of Margaret Wilbanks. Alongside the textiles, the Museum will also exhibit Tsukioka Yoshitoshi’s master ukiyo-e print series 32 Aspects of Women. This print series is considered one of Yoshitoshi’s most important, and PMoA is fortunate to have an entire set. In the adjacent gallery, visitors will find Functional Ceramics. This exhibition is also comprised of objects from the Museum’s Permanent Collection, and the focus will be on ceramic objects that were either created to be used, or could be used. The pieces on display will come from Asian, American, African, and Pre-Columbian cultures.
Both exhibitions will remain on display until June 27. The Museum will also host a reception for the exhibitions on Friday, April 9, at 6:00pm. Jason Steuber, Cofrin Curator of Asian Art at the Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida, Gainesville, will present a lecture at 6pm, with light refreshments and a cash bar to follow at 7pm. The reception is free for Museum members and $10 for non-members. For more information, call the Museum at 863-688-7743 or visit www.PolkMuseumofArt.org.
