PMoA Hosts Juke Joint Themed Night of Blues Music
On October 9, Polk Museum of Art will deliver a unique night of blues music and great times like no other! For Red, White and the Blues, the Museum will take on the atmosphere of a juke joint, featuring the music of Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers.
For those who don’t know — and if you grew up in the South, you must know — juke joints were nightclubs owned primarily by African Americans. They were often no more than a shack, but they were gathering places for fun and music.
The Museum is getting into the spirit of juke joints with modest decorations like beer can lanterns, burlap tablecloths, and handmade wall pieces.
Red, White & The Blues is a benefit event for Polk Museum of Art and will be held October 9th from 7-11pm at the Polk Museum of Art. Tickets are $75 per person in advance and $90 per person after October 1. All attendees must be at least 21 years of age. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Museum at 863-688-7743 x240 or by visiting www.PolkMuseumofArt.org/RWB.
