FIRST FRIDAY Dog Days of Summer-Aug 7

First Friday is once again hosting “Dog Days of Summer” for the August 7th theme.  Even if you don’t have a dog in this hunt, you’ll  have a ball watching the pooches sniff and mingle.  Of course, there will be dog-centric activities and contest, including a dog-owner look-a-like contest at FastFrame 6-9pm  177 South Kentucky and a costume contest  (North Kentucky at Fitz Gallery 6-9pm).  Exhibitions of dog obedience skills and training will be held throughout Downtown.  And, there will be plenty of cool water to keep our furry friends comfortable.

sethSeth Mela from WLFK’s MAYMEM in the AM Talk Radio show (6-9am weekdays) will be in Munn Park During First Friday to record conversations with YOU, the general public to be played back during his morning show. Don’t mis your opportunity to talk to SETH!

Plus, listen to DLP’s Executive Director, Julie Townsend the morning of First Friday as she makes the rounds on the radio on 97 Country, 97.5FW, The MAX 98.3FM, and MAYHEM in the AM 1430AM to talk about the First Friday Happenings all between 6:50am and 7:30am.

DARE doxie rescue will be in Downtown to capture your heart with dachshunds to adopt or foster.  Visit their website at www.DareToRescue.com.

The Lakeland Winter Haven Kennel Club will host a “meet & greet” from 6:00 – 9:00 PM in Munn Park with separate areas for small breeds and large breeds.  Literature will be available about breeds, health and safety information.  At  7:30 PM they will host the “Dog Days of Summer Best of Munn Park Show.”  Children are invited to show their dogs in the ring with a judge providing advice and tips to dog owners and handlers.  You can cancel your trip to the Westminster Show!

Other First Friday activities:

GARDEN BISTRO – Sofa Kings are playing 1st Friday at the Bistro.  Also, we are having a rib fest that night with ribs, baked potato, slaw and baked beans (while they last) from 6-8 PM  before the band starts.

LOFTY IDEAS – FREE bandanas for dogs samples of  italian ice Plus, Dr. Vargas from the Orchid Springs Animal Hospital will be here clipping and painting nails.

ARTS ON THE PARK – Art Reception, 6-9pm -Long Days of Summer.  It’s hot and sticky outside, and the day seems endless.  What does that make you think of?  People enjoying beaches, pools, sprinklers, the rain.  Cold drinks enjoyed in the shade under the breeze of a ceiling fan.    Dogs sleeping under the porch.  Children chasing fireflies in the evening calm.  Hurricanes, sunburn and mosquitoes.  Apple pies and watermelon.  Sparklers, fireworks, hotdogs and parades.  Or is it the bright orange of the sunset contrasted against the cool blue of the sea.  Artists are asked to interpret their summer memories through 2-D or 3-D art.

FAST FRAME – Dog/Owner Look alike contest. Has anyone every told you that your dog looks like you? Well here’s your chance to put that opinion to the test! Get your picture taken with your pooch and we’ll be the judge! Plus, Blurring the lines between art and photography, artist Hank Klein uses the computer to enhance the color and vibrancy of his images. Klein will be at FastFrame  demonstrating his techniques.

BROOKE POTTERY is giving away a bottle top with a $25 purchase. They will have a watering station, and dog treats.
